After Effects courses at Mektory

This year Tuuli Lepik is teaching After Effects courses at the Mektory building in Mustamäe, Tallinn. The course is called “Motion Design”. It is run in cooperation with Deutschland Studio. Are you an artist who would like to set your pictures in motion, or a photographer who would like to see your photos become cinematic? Or do you enjoy editing your own filmed videos and would like to add animated titles to those clips? Or perhaps you would rather make a simple TV commercial or an animated video to share on social media? Or maybe you aren’t a designer at all, but a capable project manager who needs to work with companies that produce TV commercials, and you would like to learn something useful about planning animation projects and understand how it all actually works?

On the course we will get to know Adobe’s After Effects, a powerful and professional tool for creating motion graphics. The program is used in the film industry to create large-scale special effects. It is also relevant in the computer game and advertising industries, even for creating the simplest announcements containing motion graphics.

Motion graphics design is a fairly new, fast-developing branch of the creative industries with great growth potential. It really took off 10-15 years ago and is developing very vigorously today thanks to advances in technology, as computer programs for creating films and videos have become ever more powerful and more accessible.

Course content

On the course we will learn to make a simple animated video that can be used both as a TV commercial and as an informational video to share on social media. We will also explore various After Effects features and techniques and share tips for inspiration. On the course we will use the following Adobe CC programs: After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, Media Encoder, Bridge. To consolidate what you have learned on the course, you can later download free trial versions of these programs from Adobe’s website.

Those who complete the course:

will have basic initial knowledge and skills in After Effects and know the program’s main working principles

will know how to create an animated video from a static design

will know how to keep progressing through independent learning

will be familiar with the possibilities behind the concept of motion graphics

The course suits anyone interested in design, animation and motion graphics. Previous experience with Photoshop or another Adobe design program is an advantage.
